Hoy Program: Stormwater and Urban Planning

Dr. Sandra McLellan will discuss water issues and the linkages between the environment and human health, particularly in urban Great Lakes coast systems.

Dr. McLellan is a Professor in the School of Freshwater Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She earned her PhD in Environmental Health at School at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and has been working on water issues in the Great Lakes for the past 20 years. Her laboratory has developed new indicators for fecal pollution by analyzing microbiome of humans and animals. During and since the COVID-19 global pandemic, Dr. McLellan’s lab has been performing wastewater surveillance to understand the trends of COVID-19 in Wisconsin communities to contribute
to the public health response.

The Hoy Audubon Society of Kenosha and Racine has a mission to initiate, encourage, coordinate, stimulate, and assist civic and community organizations, business, professional and educational interests and appropriate units of government in the study and appreciation of ornithology; to preserve and protect wildlife habitats; to support all reasonable programs of air and water pollution abatement and control; to support the principles of conservation of natural resources at local, state and national levels; to encourage and enlist the active cooperation of all citizens in the Racine and Kenosha County areas in support of these aims.
