Shoop Park Update (late March 2026)

Shoop Park

April 1, 2026

As of late March, the proposed drastic redevelopment of Shoop Park into a dunes-style golf course — a more than $10 million proposal — was creeping forward but still unsettled. The possible loss of bird habitat remains a big concern. As many of you know, the proposed developers are Craig Leipold and his wife, Helen Johnson Leipold, of Wind Point. The Wind Point Village Board has approved their
request to build a 70-stall parking lot on the lighthouse grounds, although some zoning issues remain to be dealt with as of this writing. The project would include a new cafe/clubhouse, and Hoy has, and will continue to, urge them to use bird-safe glass windows if the project comes to fruition. Hoy will continue to monitor this situation, ask questions, weigh in whenever possible, and update members. Watch our website and Facebook for details.
