Hoy Meeting: Bald Eagle Nest Watch in Wisconsin | A Citizen Science Perspective
April 4 @ 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
The Bald Eagle was pushed to the brink of extinction by the effects of pesticides and other dangers in the mid-1900’s. There were only 100 nesting pairs left in the entire state of Wisconsin in 1972. Since then, in one of the greatest conservation successes our country has seen, the population has rebounded. Today, they continue to thrive, but still face a variety of threats.
In 2018, Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance (formerly Madison Audubon) began a citizen science program in partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to better understand how the Bald Eagles are doing in Wisconsin.
Our speaker, Beth Berger Martin, long time volunteer for the Bald Eagle Nest Watch program, will share her experience over years of watching various eagles and their nests, and seeing them
rebound after Avian Flu heavily affected them.
This event is free of charge and no reservations are required.
